NyamoFam Travel Diaries: Family, Friends, Food, and Wonderful Places

Salem, Usa

September 19th

After a night in Portland, we set off for Salem, stopping for breakfast along the way in  cute Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

We found a funky restaurant called “The Friendly Toast“, and it became one of my favourite breakfast spots so far!

They had so many delicious options!

Once in Salem, we tried to visit the Witch Museum but didn’t realize tickets had to be booked online, and the line was way too long.

Instead, we wandered around and stopped for a drink at a spooky-themed café.

Later, we joined a walking tour where we saw some of the oldest houses in the U.S.

and the second-oldest cemetery.

We learned a lot about the Salem Witch Trials and the town’s history.

For the night, we stayed in nearby Danvers, which we learned during the tour was once called Salem Village, the original site of much of the witch trial hysteria.

Perhaps that’s why we had such an eventful night! Around 1:20 AM, we were jolted awake by a loud fire alarm. Turns out it was a microwave issue in the building next door, but we learned that we didn’t handle it properly at all—we were so confused and just wanted to stop the alarm.

Had it been a real fire, it would’ve been a disaster! At least we know better now, meaning just to get out of the building as fast as possible.
