NyamoFam Travel Diaries: Family, Friends, Food, and Wonderful Places

Washington, USA

October 1st:

We finally arrived just outside Washington, D.C., at Sava’s house (one of my mum’s dear university friends).

He warmly welcomed us with a delicious home-cooked dinner — a true feast! There was an excellent potato curry paired with sour cream, homemade red cabbage kimchi, beans with queso fresco, and soft tortillas.

October 2nd:

We ventured into Washington, walked around, admired the architecture, and explored our options for activities.

For lunch, we stumbled upon an excellent Vietnamese restaurant called “54 Restaurant“.

And in the evening, my parents prepared a roast chicken with lovely vegetables for dinner.

October 3rd:

We took advantage of the Smithsonian museums, starting with the National Air and Space Museum. It was fascinating, though a bit crowded.

Afterwards, we enjoyed the good weather and strolled along the National Mall and it’s surroundings.

Taking many pictures along way xD

For dinner, we returned to the Vietnamese restaurant — it was too good to resist! This time, we also treated ourselves to some bubble tea. 😋

October 4th:

We visited the National Museum of African American History and Culture, which was beautifully curated and full of information. It was impossible to take it all in at once!

For lunch, we stopped at Arepa Zone, and later we visited the Planet word Museum, recommended by Sava. It was unique, very interactive and well done, with plenty to see and do.

October 5th:

We decided to take it easy, so my siblings and I stayed in and relaxed. That evening, we went to the cinema to watch The Wild Robot with Oliver and were amused (and slightly shocked) by the enormous size of the “small” slushies.

While we were lounging around with the cat Mitzy, Daddy headed out to watch Bodi’s football game (soccer in the US). Afterwards, he treated his godson to a sushi lunch for some quality time together.

That sushi looks delish!

We invaded Mitsy’s space…

October 6th:
We had a slow morning and some tasty Ethiopian food for lunch before packing up for our next destination later in the afternoon.

A big thank you to Sava and family for hosting us! Hopefully, we can do some communal living again soon.
