NyamoFam Travel Diaries: Family, Friends, Food, and Wonderful Places

Kokrobite, Ghana

November 17th

We headed to Kokrobite closer to Accra and stayed at a lovely Italian-run garden resort.

They made excellent  food, like pasta and fresh fruit that my siblings and I indulged in for the next ten days—comfort food we’d missed.

Determined to make the most of our time, we started surfing lessons at Mr. Bright’s Surf Shop. The instructors were fantastic, and we managed to stand on our boards on the first day!

While we surfed, Doris explored the beach, saddened by the amount of plastic caught in the fishermen’s nets.

That evening, we dined by the beach, watching my grandfather and Doris chat. It was funny to imagine what my siblings and I might be like in 60 years.

November 19th–21st

These days were a mix of relaxing, surfing(and falling), and spending quality time with Neni and Doris before they left for Switzerland.

We loved having Neni and Doris around and miss them both dearly.

November 22nd

During our surf lesson, Mr. Bright himself joined us with a GoPro and drone, capturing a fantastic video of our experience.

That evening, Dad left for Accra, so it was just us kids and Mum. We went to Big Milly’s for dinner and enjoyed a lively performance of drumming and dancing.

November 23rd–24th

Neni and Doris made their way home smoothly after the challenge of rearranging all the stuff we sent home with them.

↑ Cousin Judith met them at the airport.

↑ Neni reunited with our dog Tambo.

Some extra bits from the beach:

A cheeky rooster repeatedly woke us early by attacking its reflection in our window, giving us earlier starts to our days than expected.

November 25th

Big thanks to the wonderful staff at the resort for taking such good care of us during our stay.

We said goodbye to Kokrobite Garden Resort and reunited with Alfred who will be driving us around for the next couple days.

Our first stop was at the Aburi Botanical Gardens, where we enjoyed the cool, fresh air and beautiful greenery.

For lunch, we visited Peduase Valley Resort, where they had an excellent buffet and a petting zoo—a charming end to the day before continuing our journey.
