Before heading to our hotel in Colombo, we met with Mr. Fernando, who is an old colleague of my grandfather from his time working at Nestlé back in the 80’s. He noticed many similarities between my mother and her father, which seemed to amuse him greatly. Thank you Mr. Fernando for the tasty high tea!

My mum and I set off into the city to visit the Barbara Sansoni’s shop—better known as “Barefoot“—to browse and find some gifts. It quickly became one of my favourite shops I’ve ever stepped into.

Later, we met up with the rest of the family and had a lovely tea experience at the “t-lounge by Dilmah” near our hotel near the Dutch Hospital in the Colombo fort area.

We loved Barefoot so much that we went back again, this time with the whole family, and had a lovely lunch at their café before setting off on a tuk-tuk tour around Colombo.

One of the highlights was visiting the grand red-and-white mosque, where we got to try some delicious local snacks, including sweetest pomegranate juice, cassava chips, and a local nutty drink.
We also stopped by the wholesale trading area in Pettah, where we learned about spices, coffee, and more.
In the evening, we met Brigitte and Ananda Wimaladharma, who are the parents of my mum’s dear friends, Sarah and Jan Wimaladharma. After an aperitif in their lovely home in Barne’s Place we were invited for hopper night at the Colombo Golf Club. We had such a lovely evening all together with plenty of time to catch up. Thank you Brigitte and Ananda!!!

We visited the “Colombo National Museum“.

And later went for high tea at the Galle Face Hotel in Colombo at the bottom of the Galle Face Green, followed by a lovely walk along the coast for our last full day in Colombo.

And just like that, we were off to the airport again, marking the beginning of our Southeast Asia adventure!

Sri Lanka was beautiful through and through; even the immigration stamps were beautiful!
